Yanjia Zhang

Yanjia is a 6th-year Ph.D. student in Bioengineering in Dr. Timperman’s lab, where his research focuses on developing mass spectrometry methodologies for proteomics, with an emphasis on improving protein, peptide, and sequence-variant identification in complex biological samples. His work integrates experimental proteomics, bioinformatics, and search strategies to support applications in infectious disease research, biomarker discovery, and translational diagnostics. Prior to Penn, Yanjia earned his M.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he gained experience in bioanalytical technologies and microfluidic systems. Yanjia has been involved with Penn Biotech Group for one year. As VP of Curriculum, he is excited to develop practical and engaging educational programs that help students explore career pathways in biotechnology, consulting, investing, and related fields, while building industry-relevant skills and connecting their academic training with professional opportunities. In his free time, Yanjia enjoys traveling and is a big fan of racket sports: badminton, tennis, and pickleball!
