Hua is a 5th-year Ph.D. student in Bioengineering in Dr. Jina Ko’s lab. His research focuses on developing translational platforms for molecular diagnostics and therapeutics, including saliva-based diagnostics for neuropsychiatric disorders and microfluidic systems for non-viral CAR-T cell engineering. He is also a fellow in the Penn Center for Innovation Fellowship Program, where he supports invention reviews for technology licensing and commercialization. Prior to Penn, Hua earned his B.S. in Bioengineering from University of California, Berkeley, where he also completed a minor in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship & Technology. Hua has been involved with Penn Biotech Group for two years, previously serving as Co-VP of Conference and helping organize the 2026 Wharton Biotech Conference. As Co-President overseeing Career Development, he is excited to transform PBG as the premier biotechnology career development ecosystem at Penn, a “one-stop shop” where students can explore diverse career pathways available beyond academia, develop industry-relevant skills, and build the network and experiences needed to achieve their professional goals. In his free time, Hua enjoys traveling, staying active, watching TV shows, and exploring new cuisines.
