Hongbo Zhao

Dr. Hongbo Zhao is a venture capital investor specializing in medical technology and healthcare innovation. He is currently part of the healthcare investment team at Gaorong Capital, a leading venture capital firm with a strong presence in China and a global investment outlook. At Gaorong, Dr. Zhao focuses on medical device investments, supporting emerging innovations and commercialization strategies in the industry. He also serves as a Board Observer at Restora Medical, Inc., supporting the company’s strategic growth and innovation in medical technology.

Before joining Gaorong Capital, Dr. Zhao spent three years at K2VC, investing in early-stage medtech and biotech startups from angel to Pre-A rounds. He began his investment career at CICC’s asset management division, where he gained experience in healthcare equity research and financial strategy.

Dr. Zhao holds a PhD in Bioengineering and Orthopaedic Research from Chongqing University and was an Associate Visiting PhD Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, conducting osteoporosis treatment research at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Lab under Prof. Sherry Liu. During his time at Penn, he was actively involved in healthcare consulting, serving as VP of Social for the Penn Biotech Group (PBG) at Wharton Business School.
