Who is eligible to apply?

  • Advanced graduate/ professional degree candidates (PhD, MD, JD, DMD, Master’s, etc) as well as postdoctoral fellows/ scholars are welcome to apply

  • Applicants must be enrolled in University of Pennsylvania either full-time or part-time for the Spring 2023 semester

  • Only PBG members are qualified to join the Biotech Investment Research Program. (Link: how to join PBG)

  • Considering the workload, PBG members who are currently enrolled in any pro-bono consulting projects are not eligible for the program. However, they are welcome to attend the lectures.  

  • No prior experience is required!

When is the application open?

  • Application opens: Tuesday, February 28th, 2023, 6:00 PM EST

  • Application closes: Tuesday, March 7th, 11:59PM EST

What is the structure of each workshop?

  • Format: virtual

  • Each workshop consists of:

    1. Pre-workshop readings if required by the lecture speaker

    2. Average one hour lecture, format may varies: panel discussions, case studies discussions, lecture + Q&A

    3. Post-workshop assignments: supplementary readings, homework (may include simulated fund practice, designed assignment for your biotech stock pitch competition)

What is the expected weekly time commitment?

  • 4-6 hrs/wk

What is a stock pitch?

  • A stock pitch is a brief piece of writing or presentation that summarizes whether or not it is profitable to invest in a public company’s stock – a “Buy” or “Sell” recommendation. A stock pitch is supported by a solid investment thesis, valuation metrics, catalysts, and a risk assessment section

  • A Stock pitch is a must in buy-side interviews

  • A common framework used in stock pitching includes 6 sections: Investment Idea, Summary Company Overview, Investment Thesis, Catalyst, Valuation, and How to mitigate risks. You will learn more about each section during the courses of the program

  • A good stock pitch will articulate the investment thesis to investors in a concise and convincing manner.

Team information

  • Teams of 3-5 will form throughout the program organically. We encourage you to reach out to classmates proactively

  • The contact information of qualified participants will be shared with you

  • Collaboration on post-workshop is encouraged

  • We will also host coffee chats and networking sessions to help you form the team

When is the Biotech Stock Pitch Competition?

  • April 28th, 2023, late afternoon.

  • Cash prizes will be rewarded to the top 3 winner teams.

  • More information will be announced when closer to the date.
